6 May 2010Looking for a Camcorder (Dvd only) around $300…just to use for family taping, everyday use. I was thinking of the Sony HandyCam: http://www.target.com/Sony-DVD-Handycam-Camcorder-DCR-DVD650/dp/B001P3O3O0/ref=sc_qi_detaillink?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=1D7N7RAY553Q26TY13ET&pf_rd_p=436115101&pf_rd_i=B001P3O3O0&pf_rd_s=right-1&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=5101
I DO NOT want to buy from the internet. I would like to purchase from Target/Walmart/Best Buy etc.
Any suggestions?
The only reason I want a DVD cam is b/c I DONT want to have to convert the flash to a dvd to watch on my TV or convert a tape to dvd to watch either…. I don’t plan on editing–just tapping the kids and family and watching them.
This is about gadget and consumer electronic information question.

Please do not waste your hard-earned mony on a consumer DVD based camcorder.
It may be “just to use for family taping”, but the video quality is horrible, the record time on the discs is short and getting the video into a computer for editing or uploading is painful and more often than not, very challenging. (Need to finalize the disc, then rip the disc using a tool like HandBrake.)
Flash memory is most likely your best bet – check the Canon FS series. A memory card reader (less than $10) and a video converter (MPEG StreamClip – this is free to download and use).
Ideally, I would push you in the direction of the BEST option – miniDV tape… Canon ZR960 or Sony DCR-HC62, but I suspect many brick and mortar stores are not carrying them. Which is too bad…
