Bought a DVD Camcorder – it records, but the discs don’t play on my DVD player. ?

My new Panasonic DVD camcorder records, and I can play the clips back on the DVD camcorder itself. BUT, the discs will not play on my DVD player.

The discs are Panasonic DVD-RW discs (product # LM-RW30U3). The guy as Best Buy assured me they would work.

The DVD is an RCA, fairly new. It DOES have the new-lloking tray with the small recessed area in the middle, into which the discs fit perfectly. But the TV screen says “not formatted properly” when I try to play back what has been recorded.

I can still return the camcorder and discs (bought only last week, and saved the receipts), but I don’t want to have to get a new DVD player. What I would love is if someone could either (a) tell me how to get my DVD player to play these discs, or (b) name a new 8 CM disc that would be compatiable both with my Panasonic DVD camcorder and RCA DVD player.

Thoughts? Thanks for your help!

You need to have the camcorder finalize the DVD before being able to play it on a DVD player.

when a product records to DVD, it can only record one “session” in other words it can only close the disc once (unless you are using RW discs, then it can nclose it multiple times), so in order no to end the session after only 10% has been used, the recorder leaves it open. the recorder can still playback at this point, but most other devices will not be able too play these files. in one of the menus, there should be an option to finalize or close the disc, or some other similar word. oncew you finalize the disc, you will be able toplay it in your DVD player after you close the disc. you will need to reopen it to record onto the disc again.

RW disks and RAM disk have the least compatiblity.

Did you FINALIZE the disk that is required for Minus disks, that’s required to see it on other systems.

Also the system must support the disks. Any system 2 years or older may not. Any system in the last 24 months should but you have to finalize the disk.

You might be better off with R disks as they are more compatible.
