How do you upload video from a digital camcorder to laptop??

I have a JVC Everio digital camcorder. I have no problem uploading pics, but I can’t figure out how to upload vidoe files. Do you know??
I have the insruction book, and the hardware and neither explain the process of uploading video. Do I need to get a firewire even though I have the USB the camcorder came with?

You need a firewire (available at any Best Buy) The firewire acts as a USB interface between the camera and the camcorder. Hope this helps
