Why do some Christians lie about. . . . . ?

Why do some people deny they’re rich when it’s obvious they are?

They can afford putting their kids in expensive Christian colleges, nice two story houses, they carry around PDAs(personal digital assistant), excellent taste in fashion and decor and a nice car?

Why say you’re not rich when you really are!!! I mean someone compliments you for being rich and you say “Oh no I’m not rich I don’t have that much money”

Maybe they compare themselves to people who are even richer than they are, so in their eyes they are not rich, but those who have less money will view them as so.

Maybe they are embarrassed. They are aware that Christ said, “It is easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter Heaven.” (or words to that effect)

Those people do NOT see themselves as rich. You do.

I’ve been told I’m rich very often, and I respond the same way because I do not feel rich at all. I feel poor.

There are people who should be called poor tha think they are rich and I don’t know why about that either.

Why would you “compliment” someone by saying they are rich anyway? What a stupid thing to say. It’s embarrassing!

Many people–Christian and non-Christian alike–spend the money they make almost as fast as it comes in. So when they say they aren’t rich, they are thinking only in terms of how much money is left when all the bills for that month are paid, not how much money actually comes in. Also, I don’t think that many folks in this country realize that compared with most people all over the world, we would -all- be considered wealthy. I can dumpster-dive after the end of a college semester and find enough good, usable stuff to furnish a couple of apartments; when someone can live out of a dumpster better than many Third World families can on the best their country has, -that- is wealth! (Of course, it’s also flagrant waste, but that’s for another question…)

I’m sorry you are bitter toward Christians… perhaps those who are rich are trying to be humble. It also may depend on your definition of “rich.” To third world countries, the United States is rich…. all of us.

My mother always told me to ” cry poor ” at every request for undeserved aid. Perhaps these people’s ” cry poor ” switch is turned on when you call them rich.

Most Americans lie (or simply don’t get it) about being rich. Compared to most of the folks in the world, many of us are (regardless of our creed). Sometimes we’re not so much lying, as ignoring our tremendous blessings. But we often do lie, because we’re so damned scared that someone may just ask us to give away some of that money we are so loathe to admit to possessing.

Because the bible preaches about pride and how money is the root of all evil and they do not think that money equals riches. Christians think that when they get to heaven that money wont matter. Boy do I have news for them. The bible says that the gates to heavan are two large pearls and the roads are paved with gold … sounds like a rich mans paradise to me

Because they buy more house, more car, etc, than they can afford, so they are always living just above their means, and they have to worry about whether there will be enough to pay the enormous bills they incur every month, and they always want more, instead of being grateful for the blessings they have.
